SMS Envocare: Enriching the Nature

CIO Vendor In 2004, one of India’s largest Infrastructure companies, SMS Ltd. received a project on environmental issues for the very first time. The project was related to a hazardous waste management in Pune & Nagpur. Acquiring the tender from Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and getting into the waste management business, team SMS Ltd. understood that the industries were not adhering to the rules & regulations of waste management which led to the global problems that affected both environment & human health. Deeply triggered by the future consequences that may harm the future generation, SMS Ltd. ventured with a vow to protect the environment and generate awareness. Thus, SMS Envocare came into existence.

After obtaining the first project and being successful, there was no looking back for SMS Envocare. The company later started working on projects of MIDC and set up its plant. Thereafter, the company set up plants for industrial waste management in Kolhapur & Aurangabad, a sewage water treatment plant in Nagpur along with biomedical waste plants in Bombay & Delhi. Recently, SMS Envocare has installed a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) project of 5 MLD CETP at Amravati in wastewater management section and also a sewage recycling plant which is a unique model of its kind in the city of Nagpur.

One Stop Shop for A to Z Environmental Issues
Founded in 1965 by Late. Shri. Shakti Kumar Sancheti, SMS started its journey with Govt. related infrastructural works. The company from later converted itself from SMS Infrastructure Limited to SMS. Ltd. Thereafter, entering into an environmental project, the company developed a separate wing for environmental consulting – SMS Envocare. Explicating on the journey, Mr. Hemant Lodha, Managing Director, SMS Envocare says, “Implementing the first project successfully we decided to enter into the environmental successfully we

While going through the process we saw that to have a strategic presence across the country and to recruit a knowledge-based team we need to make people aware of the environmental issues and concerns. Thus, we established SMS Envocare, as a consultancy wing of SMS Ltd.”

Offering a whole package of best-in-class services across 5 sectors, viz. – Hazardous Waste Management, Municipal, Biomedical, Sewage Treatment and Effluent Treatment. SMS Envocare also provides renewable energy, consultancy & integrated environment services to its clients. The other services include supply, procurement, commissioning and operation maintenance along with post commissioning of the project to environmental impact assessment studies for different sectors. Bided by the objectives to assist specialized services & solutions, SMS Envocare aims to proffer State-of-the-Art facilities, aids entrepreneurs and give them an economic solution for treatment of Industrial effluents & others. Moreover, it also trains industries on the 3r concept with the inclusion of analytical services, performance audits, Risk Assessment & HAZOP studies.

Nagpur headquartered SMS Envocare has commissioned more than 150+ projects to clients across Govt. & private sectors. Some of the noteworthy clients are MIDC, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, Delhi Health Services, Tata, Volkswagen & more. Leveraging its work into waste management & EPC business, the total workforce strength of SMS Envocare consist 620 permanent employees & 300 contractors. The company today has its branch offices in Delhi, Bangalore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai & others. Explaining on the future plans, Mr. Lodha concludes, “We want to have our geographical presence across the country. Planning to work on various waste management issues, our main focus at present is on the Sewage Water Treatment and Water and Waste Water Treatment.
