Niranjan Thangaokar and Sachin Bokil, used to dream about their own design practice, a platform to show case their rational, sane and contextually appropriate design ideas. They both worked abroad with design firms of repute before returning back. They both preferred to work with people who shared same rational interests as theirs and have equal faith in design as a problem-solving tool. Over a period of time, they got lucky enough to find such extraordinary and like minded people as their client. With their extensive cooperation and contribution they were finally able to convert their dreams to reality in 2003 at Pune, which they named as axii. axii is a design consultancy that works in the realms of Architecture & Interior Design. “From the beginning, we focused on getting our essentials as well as ethic right in terms of our design philosophy, beliefs and principles. For us, as design professionals it is important to understand and identify the latest trends of the phase and provide our client accordingly”, expresses Niranjan Thangaokar, Co-founder, axii.Speaking on the initial challenges, Sachin Bokil, Co-founder, axii, avers, “Internally, design maturity that comes with only age, limited work-experience to start your own studio and most importantly, not being used to be in the driver’s seat; were our demons. Not giving up on our beliefs proved to be a big thing for us. We made ourselves responsible for our designs and we toiled to make it work.

“axii’s growth hasn’t been meteoric and we did not want to go after the ‘financially successful’ tag right at the start. We did not have a legacy when we started so we did not have much choice than to keep trying. We got most of our early projects because we presented our ideas to the prospective clients without expecting immediate returns but with a lot of passion.” adds Sachin.
Discussing about the future road map, Niranjan concludes, “We have been professionally active for more than 17 years now. In the near future, as we are doing projects which can depict our design thinking in a better sense and which are more in line with our point of view. We would like to bring in a culture where in various artists, just like other consultants find it easy to connect and collaborate with architects and designers to add value to the projects.”
