Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI's Chief Scientist and co-founder, has been given a position at Elon Musk's Tesla and xAI. Sutskever assisted the company's board members in firing Sam Altman, but later regretted his decision. Altman returned to OpenAI as CEO just five days later.

A user on X using the handle Whole Mars Catalogue posted a screenshot of a news story that said, "OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever has become invisible at the company, with his future uncertain, according to insiders." "Ilya should come work at Tesla!" he said in the caption of the screenshot. Elon Musk commented on this post, "Or xAI," implying that he supports Ilya joining Tesla or xAI, an AI business.

Altman issued a statement after being reinstalled as CEO to stress that there was no ill blood between him and Sutskever. "I love and respect Ilya; I think he's a guiding light in the field and a gem of a human being," he said. I have no ill will towards him. While Ilya will no longer serve on the board, we intend to keep working together and are discussing how he may continue his work at OpenAI."

Following Altman's resignation, OpneAI President and Co-Founder Greg Brockman resigned. He posted a picture with Sutskever after re-joining, implying that things are fine between them now.

For the uninitiated, Sutskever appeared to be the mastermind behind this OpenAI board coup. In a dramatic twist, he later professed regret for his role in deposing Altman. "I deeply regret my participation in the board's actions," he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. I had no intention of causing harm to OpenAI. I adore everything we've created together, and I will do everything in my power to bring the firm back together." He even signed a petition with 500 OpenAI employees stating that if Altman is not reinstated, they will leave OpenAI and join Microsoft.

If you're wondering who Ilya Sustkever is, he's the co-founder and former board director of OpenAI. Sutskever is one of the key scientists who contributed to the development of ChatGPT. He earned his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Toronto in 2013, under the direction of Geoffrey Hinton, dubbed the "Godfather of AI."
