Taxes are an important facet in the society that we live in and it not only helps the government to perform its duties but it also helps the country to develop and with that develop into a better place to live for its people. The last day to file income tax returns for the financial year 2020-2021 is 31st December 2021. And with the end of the year closing in on us, let’s take a closer look at what are some of the dos and don’ts when it comes to year end business tax filings.

  • Organize the Documents: This an important thing that one should do before filing your tax is ensuring that you have organized all the documents necessary. Before filing, there are various documents that should be organized and that includes old tax receipts, and other receipts of income and investment. Organizing these documents will help a business to avoid any last-minute errors while filing for tax.
  • Checking your Calculations: This is yet another crucial step that everyone should keep in mind before filing for tax. Checking and even re-checking the calculations can not only help you to find any errors but it will also allow you to ensure that all the calculations that you have done are correct. If you as a business leader is confused with all this process, it is important to take help from an expert so that you are getting all the calculations correctly and is not harming the business in any shape or form.
  • Reporting: It is very important to disclose all income that you have received in a particular financial year even if a particular source of income can be exempted from tax. This is owing to the fact that, not disclosing all the income can lead to various legal consequences that can not only lead to legal implications but it will also ruin the reputation of your business. And in the current corporate realm where the reputation of a business has a massive say when it comes to determining the success and failure of an organization, any fraudulent activity relating to tax filing can permanently ruin the reputation of your business.
  • Verifying: After successfully filing the tax, it is important that you verify it owing to the fact that the IT department will only start processing the returns after receiving the verification. So, make sure that you do the verification after filing the tax.

Don’ts

  • Making Mistakes: While filing, you will be asked to fill various details and it is crucial that you don’t make any mistakes while providing the information. Incorrect information can lead to various problems and owing to this, it is important that you avoid mistakes.
  • Forgetting to Claim Deductions: One of the best ways to reduce your tax liability is to use deductions. So, make sure that you don’t forget about these deductions while filing the tax. With that said, you have to ensure that you have all the necessary documents and proof to show that your business is eligible for the deduction.
  • Delaying: This is one issue that every business owner should avoid. Delaying the filing till the last moment will not only make it a much more stressful process but in this rush, there is a high chance that you make mistakes. So, don’t delay the filing of tax and avoid waiting till the last moment.
