Meta-owned WhatsApp is said to be developing a new feature that will allow users to register a username from a web client.

According to WABetaInfo, users will soon be able to personalize their accounts and easily connect with others using a unique identifier, making it easier for them to find and connect with friends, family, and contacts on the site.

"Once a username is chosen, it will be possible to find and contact other people without requiring their phone number, expanding the possibilities for user interaction." It's worth emphasizing that users will be able to alter their username at any time," according to the report.

Furthermore, when individuals connect with people using their username, their phone number is not shown. As this feature evolves, it promises to give a new level of privacy to WhatsApp, allowing users to communicate more effectively across mobile and web platforms in the future.

According to the source, the functionality that allows users to establish their own username is in the works and will be available in a future update of the web client.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is apparently developing a new feature that would allow all participants in a video conversation to listen to video and music audio as a group when someone displays their screen.

The functionality, which is being developed for both iOS and Android, would improve multimedia cooperation by allowing users to listen to video and music audio at the same time during a video call.
