The Future of Workforce - Cobots!

By Sthitaprajnya Panigrahi Thursday, 27 August 2020

Slowly advancing towards a post-pandemic world, mankind will take time to revive from the disaster caused by the coronavirus. The depletion of natural resources along with the ever-increasing global demands requires the collaboration of human intelligence and artificial intelligence. This concept of aligning the accuracy of machines along with the acumen of humans is referred to as ‘cobotics’ is gradually gaining approval of scientists as a study of the future. The notion behind the application of cobotics is the idea of making robots work alongside the humans, not instead of them. Owing to their flexibility, easy programmability, and safety, cobots are referred as the future of workforce.

Many top educational institutes are currently experimenting over cobotics including IIT Mandi, IIT Delhi and IIT Guwahati. In IIT Mandi, the researchers are trying to develop new cobotics technologies for scrutinizing the industrial infrastructures along with maximizing the efficiency. IIT Delhi is focused on creating robots contributing to various verticals such as healthcare, agriculture, disaster management and defense. IIT Guwahati is also experimenting over cobots that can help the students to learn, help a farmer, and help industrial workers and so on.

Cobots are effective in managing the dangerous and manual works with least human intervention, benefitting the workforce to focus upon achieving the important organizational objectives

To know more about cobotics, and why is it considered to be the future of robotics the following points can be useful.

  • Accuracy in the Work

In the competitive world, ensuring the accuracy of work irrespective of the sector it belongs to is the prime necessity. Meanwhile, the human errors are inevitable which might lead to a loss for a particular company or organization. The collaboration of machines along with the guidance of human intelligence can yield better results of the highest accuracy.

  • Ensuring Fatigue Free Work

With each passing day, the industry is trying to create more automated mechanisms so that human resources can function effectively. By focusing on particular tasks the workforce can rely on the advanced robotics mechanism to do the tiresome works. This will also enhance the productivity of employees as they will only have to monitor the robots to do manual labors.

  • Efficient during Pandemics

The pandemic has showcased a scenario where not following the social distancing can be fatal for everyone. This has caused the factories and organizations to completely cease their production or services resulting in heavy loss. However, if the production process can be managed by robots under the specific guidance of human intelligence, the very danger to human lives can be avoided.

  • An alternative for Migrant workers

Panicked due to the pandemic breakout and temporary shutdown of businesses, many migrant workers decided to leave for their native places. This resulted in a huge scarcity of workers in the market which compelled the companies to either paused their work or completely shut down. Affecting vice versa, the workers and industries failed to coordinate during the virus breakout which can be rectified by the use of cobots. With the help of cobots even a few individuals can successfully run a company.

  • Cost Efficiency

Cost-efficiency is a prime factor for including cobots in the company. Affected due to the pandemic the market is currently experiencing a financial crisis. Investing in cobots will be a better option for the current as well as future scenarios, as it will ensure cost-efficiency by preventing loss, faulty productions and extra paycheques.

All the above points highlight the importance and necessity of implementing cobots in the industry. Many educational institutions are experimenting to produce effective cobots that will benefit various sectors including agriculture, medicine, hospitality, industries and education. Envisaging this enormous demand of the industry, cobotics is gradually becoming the ‘future of robotics’ which is attracting many young minds to venture further in it. Cobots are effective in managing the dangerous and manual works with least human intervention, benefitting the workforce to focus upon achieving the important organizational objectives. Under the guidance of human operators the cobots can catalyze the growth of the organizations, leading towards a new future.
