Shaktikanta Das, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), indicated on Thursday that the central bank's projected digital rupee would be launched in 2022-23. However, he elected not to speculate on a publication date. "The RBI Digital Rupee will be introduced in 2022-23. We are unable to foresee a release date at this moment", Shaktikanta Das, the governor, stated.
Providing details, the RBI governor said that there would be no difference between the digital rupee and the normal rupee. "There'll be no difference between the Digital Rupee and the normal rupee," he said.
In her Union Budget 2022-23 speech on February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the Digital Rupee will be introduced by RBI using blockchain technology starting from 2022-23. After the Budget 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the digital rupee, proposed in the union budget, could be exchanged for cash and would open new opportunities in the fintech sector.
