Dixon intends to produce Google Pixels in India

Following Apple's iPhone, Google's Pixel smartphone is about to make its debut in India thanks to Dixon Technologies' acquisition of the manufacturing project.

The government's electronics manufacturing strategy and Make in India program will benefit greatly from this decision. Additionally, it will solidify India's standing in the global ecosystem for the production of smartphones, which has been growing since Apple moved a sizable portion of its production from China to this country.

The most recent event comes after Google declared in October of last year that it plans to produce Pixels in India. At that time, the firm said that it was in discussions with possible manufacturing partners and the supply chain ecosystem in order to localize Pixel8 and its variants.

"In India, Dixon has been selected to produce Pixel. Trial production is anticipated to start shortly, industry and government sources told TOI. "Google wants to use India production for catering to needs of domestic market and potentially for exports as well," according to the sources.

Dixon declined to comment when approached, and Sunil Vachani, the chairman, was unreachable.

When Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai discussed manufacturing in India in October, it was evident that Google took the matter seriously. "At #GoogleforIndia, we revealed our ambitions to produce Pixel smartphones locally. The first model is scheduled to launch in 2024. On the microblogging site X, he stated, "We're dedicated to being a reliable partner in India's digital growth and appreciate the support for Made In India.

According to sources, Dixon was just narrowed down by Google after more than a year of discussions with other possible partners.

Google is encouraged by the benefits provided to mobile phone makers under the production-linked incentives system, in addition to India's increasing competitiveness in the smartphone market.
