WhatsApp introduced "Communities," a feature in November 2022 that aims to unite disparate groups under a single roof. The Meta-owned platform had announced this development in a blog post, saying that "Communities like neighbourhoods, parents at a school, and workplaces can now connect multiple groups together under one umbrella to organise group conversations." Since then, communities have benefited from a number of features, and users have recently been able to host events for other community members. Reminding users of impending events is just one more way that WhatsApp is improving the events function, according to a recent report.
The most recent beta version of WhatsApp, version 2.24.12.5, which is accessible on the Google Play Store, indicates that the messaging app is getting ready to include a new event reminder function for community group conversations, according to a WA Beta Info article. By enabling members to create reminders for forthcoming events, this new feature seeks to assist community administrators in keeping members informed and involved.
The journal published a screenshot showing the event reminder feature, which allows administrators to alert group members in advance of planned activities. Reminders may be sent out to users thirty minutes, two hours, or even a day in advance of the event. In order to accommodate the various schedules and tastes of their community members, administrators will have the freedom to choose between up to two notification times.
The event creation page, which presently has sections for the event name, description, date, location, and the ability to set up a WhatsApp call link, will incorporate the reminders. This page's functionality will be improved with the addition of a reminder tool, which will help members be ready for forthcoming events. Furthermore, a toggle labeled "Allow additional guests" allows users to invite one visitor to the event; however, not all beta users are able to see this option at this time.
Though it is currently under development and not yet available to the public, this feature has obvious potential advantages. Reminders for events are a simple but effective way to guarantee attendance and involvement in neighborhood events. By releasing this upgrade, WhatsApp is meeting a critical need by facilitating community administrators' ability to efficiently organize and publicize events.
Although not currently accessible to all users, the reminder function should soon be added to the app's stable version.
