Two days after being dismissed, Sam Altman was welcomed to the OpenAI Office

On Sunday, former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and former President Greg Brockman were visiting the company's offices in San Francisco. This comes just two days after Altman was sacked by OpenAI's board of directors.  According to The Information, Interim CEO Mira Murati and the executive team had invited Altman to the office for additional negotiations. The discussion fuels concerns about Altman's future at the company.

According to the story, Altman and Brockman, as well as a trio of senior researchers who quit in solidarity, are being considered for reinstatement. Jason Kwon, Chief Strategy Officer, voiced hope about their return.

Altman published an image of himself wearing an OpenAI visitor badge with the statement "first and last time I ever wear one of these" in a mysterious post on messaging app X.

Altman's anticipated return has sparked concern in the tech industry, as it would demand a total board change. Meanwhile, Altman is thinking about starting a new artificial intelligence (AI) firm.

Altman's firing has sparked outrage among current and former employees, increasing fears about the impact on an imminent $86 billion stock sale. Hundreds of OpenAI employees gathered at Altman's $27 million residence in San Francisco's Russian Hill neighborhood to show their support.

Investors are also uniting in support of Altman. Tiger Global is among the investors advocating for Altman's restoration. Sequoia Capital has been in discussions with Altman regarding possible next moves, including a return. The company has also encouraged leaders at Microsoft, one of OpenAI's biggest investors, to help engineer his return.

If Altman does return to OpenAI, Microsoft, the company's largest backer, is considering joining the board. This could be as a board member or as a non-voting observer on the board.
