Telangana's State Aviation Academy (TSAA) has forged a partnership with the Indian Space Research Organisation's (Isro) National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) to propel the state into the forefront of drone technology. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Wednesday, February 7, sets the stage for advanced drone pilot training and the establishment of a dedicated drone port in Hyderabad.

The agreement, sealed in the presence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Isro Chairman S Somanath, aims to equip aspiring drone pilots with state-of-the-art skills through comprehensive training programs encompassing piloting, data management, and analysis. Moreover, a specialized 15-day course on data analysis, processing, and mapping will be offered to NRSC scientists and drone pilots at the TSAA.

Chief Minister Reddy, highlighting the burgeoning applications of drones across various sectors, stressed the importance of extending training beyond civilian pilots. He advocated for programs targeting government officials, from Tehsildars to higher authorities, to foster broader awareness and understanding of drone technology's potential.

Isro Chairman Somanath emphasized that the NRSC, renowned for its expertise in satellite, remote sensing, and space technology, will leverage its capabilities to provide tailored training for advanced drone applications.

The envisioned drone port will serve as a focal point for pilot training and will facilitate operational trials for drone manufacturers. Chief Minister Reddy has directed officials to identify 20 acres of land within Pharma City for establishing the port.

Furthermore, he has instructed officials to explore the feasibility of renovating and reactivating the damaged runways at Warangal Airport. Reddy suggested exploring the potential of launching commercial operations there and addressing any existing obstacles.

Additionally, Reddy has directed officials to engage with airport authorities to explore the development of airfields in Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam areas, identified as promising locations for future aviation expansion.
