Suzuki Motor Corporation launched the e Vitara, its first mass-produced battery electric vehicle, in Europe on Monday. Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India will begin production of the model in spring 2025, with sales set to begin in several regions, including Europe, India, and Japan, in the summer of 2025, according to a statement from the Japanese carmaker.
Maruti Suzuki India intends to launch the model next year. Suzuki owns a 58% stake in Maruti Suzuki India. The e VITARA is based on the "eVX" concept car, which debuted at the Auto Expo in India in January 2023 and the Japan Mobility Show in October of the same year.
The vehicle is Suzuki's first global strategic BEV. "The e Vitara is our first BEV, developed through repeated trial and error to create an easy-to-use BEV for our customers," Suzuki Motor Corporation President and Representative Director, Toshihiro Suzuki, stated. To achieve a carbon-neutral society, the corporation would offer a range of solutions, including as BEVs, hybrid vehicles, and CNG vehicles, adapted to various locations, he said.
Suzuki stated that the introduction of the e Vitara marks a big step toward reaching carbon neutrality. "Following the launch of the e Vitara, we will continue to expand our BEV line-up and propose mobility solutions tailored to the needs of specific countries and regions," according to him. Last Monday, Suzuki stated it will supply the electric SUV to Toyota Motor Corporation.
Suzuki said last week that it would supply the electric SUV to Toyota Motor Corporation as part of their ongoing relationship. In 2017, Toyota Motor Corporation and Suzuki Motor Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding to form a commercial relationship that would share goods and production facilities.
