Thousands of customers reported a Reliance Jio service outage on Tuesday (September 17), which disrupted network access across the country. Many individuals used social media to protest and post memes about the outage, with the hashtag #jiodown trending on X.
Down Detector, a website that tracks outages of internet services, reported a rise in complaints about midday, totaling 10,382. According to the statistics, 60% of consumers reported no signal, 21% experienced problems with mobile Internet, and 19% encountered JioFiber troubles.
Netizens rushed to X to report the outage. A user on X writes, "Jio network is down for users in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Lucknow, Patna, Cuttack, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Nagpur. The reports began trickling in this morning."
However, many X users report that it was also down in other regions of the nation. Users also reported troubles with the Jio website and app, stating they were unable to recharge their subscriptions.
One customer voiced dissatisfaction with the services, writing, "Jio network has serious problems." The transition from 4G LTE to 5G is never seamless. When moving from one cell area to another, latching up (with the best available signal station) might be an issue. Always needed to restart or utilize the sim enable/disable option."
While the firm has not released an official comment, some suspect the outage was caused by a fire at the Jio Data Centre.
