Instagram and Facebook Messenger Down For Thousands Of Users

By Consultants Review Team Wednesday, 06 March 2024

Meta's Instagram and Facebook Messenger accounts were down on Tuesday, February 5. Global social media users were greatly irritated when large-scale disruptions occurred on Meta-owned services, including Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and others, notably in India.

Users complained about abrupt logouts and had trouble using the platforms. Many users also experienced problems with WhatsApp, the instant messaging service owned by Meta.

A Reuters article states that over 300,000 people reported Facebook outages, whereas around 20,000 people reported Instagram outages.

On its status page, Meta acknowledged the problem and stated that its engineering teams are investigating the Facebook login issue. Facebook cited remarks made by Andy Stone, the director of Meta Communications, regarding Threads' primary rival, X. He indicated that the organization is aware of the access problems and is attempting to resolve them. "We're aware that people are experiencing difficulty accessing our services," Stone stated. We are currently addressing this.

A similar outage happened in 2021 when WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook were down for many hours due to a setup fault.

Elon Musk, meanwhile, made fun of Meta by saying on X, "If you're reading this post, it's because our servers are working." Since the introduction of Threads, which rose to popularity following Musk's takeover of Twitter, Musk has been critical of Meta.
