Emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), will revolutionize the talent landscape in India's main development industries, creating 2.73 million new tech jobs by 2028, according to new study commissioned by ServiceNow, the AI platform for business transformation. Among the world's fastest-growing major economies, India's workforce is expected to rise from 423.73 million in 2023 to 457.62 million by 2028, representing a net gain of 33.89 million people.
According to study commissioned by premier learning business Pearson, the retail industry is poised to dominate employment growth, requiring an additional 6.96 million workers to drive its rise. This surge provides retail professionals with an excellent opportunity to upskill in areas such as Software Application Development and Data Engineering, preparing them for a technologically driven world. This is followed by manufacturing (1.50 million jobs), education (0.84 million jobs), and healthcare (0.80 million jobs), all of which are predicted to rise as the economy and technology adapt.

Tech-related occupations are expanding across industries, with professional, scientific, and technical services, manufacturing, and telecommunications among those positioned for growth. Software Application Developers are predicted to see the most growth, with 109,700 new jobs created. Other prominent positions are Systems Software Developers with 48800 new jobs and Data Engineers, 48500 new jobs.
Web Developers, Data Analysts, and Software Testers are also expected to grow in number, with 48,500, 47,800, and 45,300 new jobs being created. Furthermore, job openings for Data Integration Specialists, Database Architects, Data Scientists, and Computer and Information Systems Managers are predicted to expand by 42,700 to 43,300. The impact of developing technologies will be across industries such as energy, government services, and utilities, driving workforce development through technological breakthroughs.
According to a recent Nasscom-BCG analysis, India's AI market is expected to develop at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25-35% and reach USD 17 billion by 2027. This expansion is being driven by a variety of causes, including increased enterprise IT spending, India's rising AI skill pool, and a large increase in AI investments.
