Abu Dhabi's leading oil firm and AIQ reached an agreement to deploy artificial intelligence to improve energy efficiency.
Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. will use agentic AI, developed by AIQ in collaboration with Microsoft Corp. and G42, for the first time to analyze massive amounts of data to identify operational improvements in the energy industry, according to Chief Executive Officer Sultan Al Jaber at the Adipec conference opening on Monday.
"It will speed up seismic surveys from months to days, adding that it will also make the business more sustainable by lowering emissions. It will increase the accuracy of production forecasts by up to 90%, " said Al Jaber.
Microsoft and G42 announced in September that they would create two artificial intelligence facilities in Abu Dhabi, months after signing a $1.5 billion agreement. G42, which aims to become the Middle East's AI superpower, is part of Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan's $1.5 trillion empire, which includes one of Abu Dhabi's deputy rulers, the UAE's national security adviser, and his brother, the president.
Microsoft is one of the firms working on AI agents, which are systems that can execute a variety of activities without human supervision and accomplish things that traditional AI models cannot. Some businesses are already utilizing this so-called agentic AI to assist with staff onboarding and supply chain management.
The Adnoc-AIQ AI system, which is powered by G42's Khazna data center, will begin test analysis by the end of the year. According to Khazna CEO Hassan Al Naqbi, the center plans to increase its usage of renewable energy, beginning with a solar plant. Al Jaber also predicts that worldwide power sector investment will need to increase to $1.5 trillion per year to accommodate rising AI demand.
