Covestro Establishes an Ultra Trimer Production Plant in Gujarat

By Consultants Review Team Friday, 13 September 2024

Covestro(India) Private Limited has opened a new ultra-timer production plant in Ankleshwar, Gujarat, marking an important milestone for both the corporation and the Indian manufacturing industry. This plant, the first of its type in India, is expected to boost local manufacturing capabilities while also strengthening India's status as a global manufacturing powerhouse. It also demonstrates Covestro India's commitment to the "Make in India" scheme.

The new factory will manufacture Desmodur® ultra trimer products, which are essential for a variety of sectors such as consumer electronics, construction, automotive, and wooden furniture. The introduction is consistent with Covestro's aim to fulfill the rising demand for high-performance, environmentally friendly coatings and adhesives in the Asia Pacific area. Production of the first batch of Desmodur® ultra trimer products is expected to commence in Q4 2024.

Desmodur® ultra trimer products are well-known for their high durability and resilience to environmental conditions such as UV radiation, chemicals, and physical damage. Thomas Roemer, Global Head of Covestro's Coatings and Adhesives Business Entity, underscored the company's continued investment in manufacturing capacity throughout Asia. This investment is intended to strengthen Covestro's market leadership in the aliphatic isocyanates sector and provide high-quality products to clients throughout the area.

The Ankleshwar factory is Covestro's fourth dedicated Trimer product manufacturing site, joining those in China, Germany, and the United States. Anand Khot, Head of Coatings and Adhesives APAC at Covestro, stated that this investment is intended to improve the localization of distinct Desmodur® ultra trimer products. It is consistent with industry trends for reduced VOC emissions, great performance, and increased efficiency in coatings and adhesives.

Furthermore, the plant incorporates cutting-edge technologies to drastically minimize carbon emissions and encourage environmentally friendly production processes. This effort helps Covestro achieve its aims of developing circularity and carbon neutrality, resulting in a more sustainable chemical sector.
