| |MAY 20194Consultants ReviewEditor's NoteThe Era of Reskilling the WorkforceDeepshikha SinghManaging Editor Consultants ReviewNarendra Modi, Prime Minister of India has rightly said, - `The more we give importance to skill development, the more competent will be our youth.' According to a NASSCOM report, about 40 percent of India's total workforce has to be reskilled over the next five years to cope with emerging trends like AI, IoT, machine learning and blockchain. With India having 65 percent of its youth in the working age group at present, there is no doubt that this is a phenomenally interesting time within the L&D, training, and performance industry. With global transformation, evolving work demands and upgraded skill requirements, the old school methods have changes. As technologies such as robotics and AI change jobs and how people should prepare to do them, new forms of digital content, and a new realm of data science is allowing learning professionals to understand the impact on their designs and investments. Given that many jobs are changing, it may come as no surprise that, according to a recent World Economic Forum report, more than half almost 54 percent - of all employees will require significant reskilling and upskilling in just three years. Today, more than $400 million have been invested in fast-growing learning providers such as EdX, Khan Academy, Coursera, and Udemy, which have emerged as large marketplaces for online training, serving millions of users after only a few years of operation. Reskilling has become a growth imperative for organizations, many of which have seen positions go unfilled for months or years for lack of the right talent to fill them. It is becoming increasingly apparent that organizations in today's tight talent market cannot depend solely on recruitment to find people for those roles. In a world where technology is changing jobs and people are living longer lives with more diverse careers, organizations not only have an opportunity, but a responsibility, to reinvent learning so that it integrates into the flow of work.
